“Do it scared”

“Do it scared.” Something unleashed when my mentor uttered these words to me. She was right. What’s worse? Doing something scared and possibly winning or making excuse after excuse to lead to a most definite loss? Fuck, she was right.

Fear is a natural emotion that we all experience at some point in our lives. Whether it's fear of failure, fear of the unknown, or fear of rejection, blah, blah, blah. Whatever it is, it can hold us back from reaching our full potential. It’s so important to remember that fear is just a feeling, and feelings are good, right?! Right! Feeling fear means you are alive, it means you care, but it doesn't have to control your actions. And if it does, make it work for you. Don’t fight the fear! Feel it and try these:

1. Identify your fear.

The first step to overcoming your fear is to identify what it is that you're afraid of. Is it a fear of failure? A fear of the unknown? Once you know what you're afraid of, you can start to address it.

2. Face your fears babe.

The only way to overcome your fear is to stare that bastard right in the face. Mono a mono! It’s ok to take baby steps. Forward movement is progression. Maybe you have to just dip that pinky toe in or maybe just maybe you take a deep dive into faith and cannonball right in. Whatever it is, take action and confront that shit.

3. Break it down now.

Sometimes our fears can seem overwhelming, I know mine are. Just focus on one bite at a time so it’s less intimidating. Make a list and scratch as you go!

4. Surround yourself with support.

Having a support system can make all the difference when it comes to overcoming your fears. Whether it's a friend, family member, or therapist, hell maybe even a journey. Having an outlet or someone to talk to and lean on can give you the confidence you need to take action.

5. Celebrate your successes.

Every time you take a step towards overcoming your fear, celebrate it! Whether it's treating yourself to a favorite snack or taking a day off to relax, or a little shop therapy, acknowledging your progress can help motivate you to keep going.

Remember, everyone experiences fear at some point in their lives. It's how we respond to that fear that sets us apart. By identifying your fear, facing it head-on, breaking it down, surrounding yourself with support, and celebrating your successes, you can overcome your fears and take action towards your goals and living to the fullest, best version of yourself.
